dark-side-free-dating1Little do many people who join free dating sites understand that a least 60% of these sites are financially supported by ads – ads which are usually related to none other than ‘paid dating sites‘. Isn’t that interesting? It is but it totally makes sense.

Why? Well where else would a paid dating site want to advertise? Of course there are tons of other websites that a paid dating site could advertise on but a free dating site is the cream of the crop. Successful free dating sites usually have thousands of members viewing hundreds if pages a day so it only makes sense to send a little advertising spend their way. We can safely assume that although the member has signed up for a free dating site, a good portion of thoses members will click the ads and sign up at a paid one. For paid dating sites, that one email and that one signup is worth it.

So what’s my point? Well, I’ve noticed that a lot of marketers for free dating sites have taken the liberty to “diss” paid dating sites. It seems some advertisers are asking questions like where is the respect to the people who make the owners of free dating sites rich?

It dawned on me. Being the owner of a free dating site too, I should be careful. There really is no need to take a stab at paid dating sites when 90% of the ads on my site come from them. If they wanted to they could just pull their ads. Now what good would that do? And where would my non-paying members go?
